Looks like we’re going to be getting a lot of old legendary Pokémon back for the newest Pokémon movie, The ArchDjinn of the Rings: Hoopa!

Hoopa, the new legendary who is starring in the film, is rumored to be responsible for bringing legendary Pokémon to the player in the latest Pokémon games, which seems like a good excuse to use Hoopa to bring back these older legendary Pokémon in this new movie. This way, Pokémon movie fans enjoy a little old with the new.

The Pokémon

The previously discussed trailer shows Kyogre, Groudon, and a shiny Rayquaza being sucked into one of Hoopa’s rings and leaving us wondering: what, if any, other legendary Pokémon will be making an appearance in the film? With the release of a new poster, the list is official!

Above Ash, and company, is not only the aforementioned Hoopa, but an entire horde of legendary Pokémon!

The Pokémon are:

Primal Groudon

Latios, the Eon Pokémon

Kyurem, the Boundary Pokémon

Palkia, the Spacial Pokémon

Mega Rayquaza

Giratina, the Renegade Pokémon

and, last but definitely not least, Primal Kyogre.

Quite an assortment of legendary Pokémon! From the old to the new, it certainly is exciting to see a lot of familiar faces, such as Lugia, to go along with the introduction of Hoopa, who was originally meant to appear with its counterpart Ho-Oh back in the thirteenth Pokémon movie, Zoroark: Master of Illusions, until they were replaced by the legendary beasts (Raikou, Suicune and Entei) and Celebi, much to the discontent of fans everywhere.

New Trailer

But not only did we get a poster, but a new trailer was also released. Check it out below.

This trailer shows one more legendary that was not featured in the poster: Latias, the Eon Pokémon, and female counterpart to Latios.

Story

Along with throwing in Latias into the mix, the teaser also gives us some proper story details. We are shown a new character known as “Barza” in Japan, more of Hoopa interacting with Ash and Pikachu, and then see Hoopa being unbound. Hoopa seems to fight the transformation while presumably its unbound form’s eyes can be seen behind it. Hoopa finally stops struggling and its teeth become razor sharp, its menacing grin ending the trailer, a small teaser as to what Hoopa’s unbound form looks like.

Finally, we also have the premise for the movie, English translation taken from Serebii.net:

One hundred years ago, the desert city “Désser City” got severely damaged in a battle between Pokémon. The battle was started due to one specific Pokémon. However, the Pokémon got sealed by someone, and the city went back to being as peaceful as ever, a state it still is in today.

As Ash, Pikachu and the others continue their journey, they encounter the mythical Pokémon Hoopa, who carries “rings that can summon anything and everything”, and a girl named Mary who takes care of Hoopa.

The mischievous Hoopa starts summoning all kinds of things from its rings, including its favorite food, donuts, to everyone’s surprise and enjoyment. Ever a prankster, the simple-minded and innocent Hoopa starts referring to Ash and Pikachu as “Saton” and “Pikan”. It quickly befriends the group, and they all decide to travel together.

Once they arrive in Désser City, Ash and the others meet Mary’s older brother, Barza. However, something seems off about him. On a closer look, he’s holding the “Prison Bottle” that’s said to have sealed the Pokémon that once destroyed the city!

An evil air drifts out of the bottle. It appears that the seal has become undone over all this time. Just then, legendary Pokémon giving off that same air appear! Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Kyurem… This will put the city in extreme danger.

In order to protect the city, Hoopa makes more legendary Pokémon “Appear!” from its rings! Will Satoshi and his friends manage to protect Désser City alongside the legendary Pokémon Hoopa made “Appear!”? And what is the true identity of this evil power?

LEGEND VS LEGEND!
The most fierce battle in Pokémon movie history is about to begin!

So, Pokémon trainers, are you interested to see this movie now that you know they will be bringing in legendary Pokémon old and new? Who do you think will be the last one standing if they fight?
