‘Frozen’ Musical Confirmed to Hit Stage by 2017

Just a few months after mega hit Frozen was released in theaters, Disney announced plans to make the film into a Broadway musical. Since then, news about the Frozen Musical has been quiet, until today.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Frozen‘s original songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are indeed back and have already begun composing new original songs for the musical. Since the film already has nine songs, five of which appear in the first 30 minutes, the pair is probably focusing on songs for the second act. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if even more new songs appear in act one. And, of course, the musical is going to include the song heard around the world “Let It Go.”

The songwriting duo has also been working closely with a Disney creative team consisting of Jennifer Lee (Frozen‘s co-director), Thomas Schumacher (head of Disney Theatrical) and Alex Timbers (director of the musical Here Lies Love and Peter and the Starcatcher). No word yet on who will direct the musical.

The film’s co-director Jennifer Lee is writing the show’s book and will be working closely with the couple in adapting the film to assure that it’s equally as spectacular and successful on stage.

If Disney is able to find the right theatre, then we should expect to see the musical in 2017.
