Although quite lacking in the promotion department, Magnolia Pictures’ The Hero of Color City is set to be released to theaters tomorrow, October 3rd, 2014.

As we can gather from the trailer, the film is about a band of crayons who has to stop an evil unfinished drawing in “Crayon Land” from blocking the source of their color.

My first reaction to this film is that it’s like Foodfight! except with crayons. The animation of the humans is quite sub-par and resting on the uncanny valley, whilst the animation of the crayons and crayon world is…decent, at best.

The voice acting (featuring the talents of Christina Ricci, Wayne Brady, Rosie Perez, and Craig Ferguson among others) just seems so uninspired at times. I mean, the blue crayon put forth the most bored “Charge!” I’ve ever heard in my life!

"Tell that to my face, Mark Brown!"
“Tell that to my face, Mark Brown!”

The only thing that seems somewhat interesting is the story: the fact that there is this alternate crayon world where all the crayons come to life and that an unfinished drawing is the villain of a world of color. And that’s why I liken this movie to Foodfight! as I found the story and setting of Foodfight! to be interesting, while everything else…not so much.

Anyway, what do you think of this movie? Will you go see it? Will you gladly avoid it? Let us know in the comments below!
