Though the first official trailer was released a few months ago, we finally have the one page poster and official logo for Turbo and it looks pretty slick…no pun intended.

turbo-official-posterAs you may recall, the story follows a snail voiced by Ryan Reynolds, who dreams of racing glory. Now Wired has released new information not only on the plot of Turbo but on a spin-off series being produced by Netflix as Corrina Lawson, a writer at Wired, had the inside scoop after watching two movie clips.

In the first clip I watched, which [is] part of the opening sequence, Turbo dreams of racing glory and is unexpectedly exposed to a chemical that changes him. In the second, Turbo was introduced to a group of racing snails just as his ability kicks in. Both clips were very entertaining, giving a far better view of the story than the current trailer. The movie will be released on July 19th.

It’s the snail racing team that will be the focus of the just announced Turbo F.A.S.T. on Netflix. That’s likely good news for viewers, as that team was a fascinating group of normal snails who nevertheless still managed to do impossible things.

There has obviously been a lot of criticism towards Dreamworks for this film (just check out the comments on this article), because of the racing theme that hits a little too close to Disney’s Cars. However, I for one, am still intrigued. It may be that the only thing Turbo has in common with Cars is that they are about racing as the general plot set up is completely different. In Turbo the main character dreams of making it big, whereas in Cars Lightning McQueen is already there. Not to mention Turbo deals with a sudden gift that gives the protagonist the edge to win, versus having the ego and suppor to win that McQueen has.

Come July 19th, I for one, am looking forward to this film and the spin off series. Will you be making the trip out to watch this potentially questionable film?
