20th-Century-Fox-DreamWorks-AnimationLast week it was announced that DreamWorks Animation had struck a new distribution deal with Twentieth Century Fox, which will takeover after DreamWorks’ current contract with Paramount Pictures runs out with November’s Rise of the Guardians.

The partnership will span the next five years and Twentieth Century Fox will receive an 8 percent distribution fee for handing DreamWorks’ theatrical, home media and international television releases. Fox will also receive a 6 percent fee for distributing digital rentals. As for domestic television distribution, DreamWorks wants to handle that itself, as DreamWorks’ president Jeffrey Katzenberg has hopes of starting a new own cable channel for the studio.

In addition to the new cable channel, multiple movies are in the pipeline including The Croods, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Me and My Shadow. Don’t forget the New Meadowlands amusement park deal we mentioned in Episode 18 and the buyout of cartoon conglomerate Classic Media (which owned iconic characters such as He-Man, Waldo, Archie, Casper and a slew of others).

Clearly, DreamWorks Animation is making big strides in the growing market.
