alfWe got news this past week that Alien Life Form (or ALF, for short) is coming back…in movie form!

Sony Pictures Animation will be taking on the challenge of bringing our favorite snarky alien (with an voracious appetite for cats) to the silver screen. The film with be a CGI-live action hybrid with ALF being an CGI-animated character set in a live action world.

Jordan Kerner, a veteran producer with credits ranging from The Mighty Ducks to Charlotte’s Web, will product the project with show creators Tom Patchett, a veteran of 1970s comedies, and puppeteer Paul Fusco. Fusco, who wrote and produced the original ALF sitcom (which ran only for four seasons), has signed on to reprise the ALF’s voice. No writers or directors are attached to the project.

If you don’t remember ALF, you may be asking “What the heck is this?” Well, ALF was a campy 80’s throwback television show that was supposed to appeal to Generation Y’ers (children of the 80s and 90s). It seems as though these Generation Y’ers just don’t want to let go of their childhood, as evidenced by the smashing success of The Smurfs—an animated film based on the 1980s cartoon series of the same name—which grossed more than $563 million worldwide.

Are you excited to see ALF back?
