The Licensing Expo opened today in Vegas and brought us some new art for two new animated films: Blue Sky Studios’ Epic and DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo.

We get our first look at Blue Sky Studios’ Epic, a film based on William Joyce’s illustrated children’s book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. Epic tells the story of a teenage girl who is magically transported into a secret world and must fight to save both that world and her own.

So far the film looks promising, especially after the announcement of its star-studded cast (Although Pitbull? Really?).  The film feels like a mix between FerGully, Thumbelina and A Bug’s Life. It’s also nice to see other projects from Blue Sky Studios, other than its cash cow Ice Age. The film opens May 24, 2014.

The next art is another look at DreamWorks Animation’s racing snail adventure Turbo. This looks similar to the first poster we’d seen, so there’s not much else to say. With the recent trend of turning board games and toys into movies, I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie is inspired by one of my childhood favorite board games “Snail Pace Race.” Turbo races into theatres July 19, 2013.
