In 2006, the Creative Talent Network Expo started to bring together the world’s top leading creators of both traditional and digital animated films. Each year they have over 40 presenters, from some of the highest grossing films and games in the history of animation, from all over the world. This year, LAIKA employees are set to attend CTN Animation Expo in Burbank, CA in November.
Steve Emerson (below), LAIKA’s VFX Supervisor, will attend. Emerson had a diverse background in visual effects and his work is highlighted in LAIKA’s The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, Coraline, and the upcoming film Kubo and the Two Strings. Emerson spent nearly twenty years working in visual effects as an artist and technical director. His previous live-action works include The Matrix Reloaded, Transformers, 300, The Dark Knight, and the Universal Television series Sliders.
Also to attend is Georgina Hayns (Creative Supervisor, Puppet Fabrication) and Brian McLean (Director of Rapid Prototype). They will be at CTN to discuss their collaboration at the studio and will address the challenges, learnings, and their important interdepartmental relationships of each of LAIKA’s feature films. They will also take part in related events and activities at CTN Expo, which will include mentor sessions and a breakfast.
The expo is at the Burbank Airport Marriott Convention Center and runs from 20 – 22 November. Other guests and panels are yet to be announced, but more information and updates can be found on the CTN Expo website.
