‘Minions’ Becomes Third Highest-Grossing Animated Film Ever!

According to a post on Cartoon Brew, the 2015 animated film, Minions, has become the third highest-grossing animated film ever! The Illumination Entertainment film (based on the Minions characters from the successful Despicable Me franchise) received average critical reviews at best, but performed amazingly in the box office as it grossed a worldwide total of $989.4 million!

The previous third place holder was Disney’s hit from its Renaissance, The Lion King, which grossed $987.5 million worldwide. The top 10 highest-grossing animated films are listed below:

  1. Frozen (Disney): $1.27 billion
  2. Toy Story 3 (Pixar): $1.06 billion
  3. Minions (Illumination): $989.4 million
  4. The Lion King (Disney): $987.5 million
  5. Despicable Me 2 (Illumination): $970.8 million
  6. Finding Nemo (Pixar): $936.7 million
  7. Shrek 2 (DreamWorks): $919.8 million
  8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Blue Sky): $886.7 million
  9. Ice Age: Continental Drift (Blue Sky): $877.2 million
  10. Shrek the Third (DreamWorks): $799 million
