Just a month ago DreamWorks Animation released a first comedic trailer for its upcoming Madagascar spin-off film: Penguins of Madagascar. Yesterday we were unexpectedly treated with a second trailer for the movie. The new trailer features a look at some of the new characters, great action scenes and more of the film’s plot.

Where the first trailer mainly focused on getting the younger audiences excited with a trailer filled with just jokes, this trailer focused more on the actual plot of the movie. We see a lot more of the new characters including the film’s villain Dave voiced by John Malkovich and some great new action scenes. Of course, DreamWorks didn’t forget some hilarious new comedic moments that are promised to be some of the stand-out moments in the entire movie.

This looks funny enough to watch it! Not sure if in theaters or Blu-ray/DVD.

Okay…the Penguins being the Penguins. What’s new? Where’s the edge? Did the world really need this…really?

    • Trev

What’s the edge? They’re secret agent penguins!!!!

What edge do you want? You want them with machine guns? Flamethrowers?

      • Gideon

Hahaha nothing quite so dramatic! Just something that would make this a unique, interesting film, and, at the risk of sounding jaded, maybe disguise the fact this is just Dreamworks vomiting out more franchise fodder.

I find the Penguins quite humorous. I like the slapstick-like comedy and the sight gags. It kind of reminds me of the old school cartoons I grew up with like Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry (not that I’m saying they’re on the same level). I think there’s definitely a market for this kind of animated comedy and I’m quite looking forward to this and having a fun time at the movies.

    • Oh yes, I agree that it reminds me of old school but also with new high-tech gadgets and some classic James Bond spy motions. I don’t think this will be as epic as “Frozen” but am guessing it’ll do nicely at the box office and with some new Penguin products to market, plus a lot of laughs. Cumberbatch is classy as ever as an animated wolf the little bit of him stirring a cup of tea is charming.

The moment the penguins were riverdancing, I cracked up.

I’m looking forward to this one. I will say I’m surprised it took the route of “around-the-world secret-agent” family movie after we’ve just had Cars 2 and Muppets Most Wanted. But nevertheless, I’m excited to see it.
