A lot of exciting animated movies are releasing this year, one of them is DreamWorks’ upcoming How to Train Your Dragon 2. Whenever an animated movie comes out, usually also a companion piece is released as well; in this case its The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2 by Newmarket Press, a book filled with all the concept art, visual development and behind-the-scenes stories of this hotly anticipated movie. A few days ago the book cover released on Amazon. Check it out below!

Contrary to The Art of Frozen, it seems like this is the final book cover and not just a place holder until the real cover art is revealed. Compared to other art book covers, this cover has really dark colors with Hiccup shadowy silhouette, immediately setting a tone for the movie itself. Hiccup’s pose in the cover is really strong and clear; it almost looks like he’s guiding a revolution, but from the trailers it will most likely be a war or a big fight (He has come very far since the first film). Toothless flying in the sky adds another layer of excitement and visual interest. I really wanna know what’s happening in this scene and I can’t wait to see it fully animated.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a sequel to the 2010 DreamWorks hit movie How to Train Your Dragon. In How to Train Your Dragon 2, it’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 will release in theatres June 13, 2014 and The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2 will be available May 6, 2014. Pre-order it on Amazon.

What’s your favorite part of the cover of ‘The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2’? Will you buy the book?
