Also, Roy Conli has replaced Kristina Reed as the film's producer.

Here is the official release, which came from Disney 2014 Preview Kit:

Chris Williams is a long-time Disney veteran, having both written and co-directed the 2008 film Bolt for the studio. Before that, he worked as in the story department for Mulan, The Emporer's New Groove and Brother Bear. After Bolt, he was slated to direct King of the Elves, but that was cancelled and shelved a while ago. Recently, he did voice the trading post owner, Oaken, in Frozen.

It's good to see Williams finally attached to a project that we'll actually see in theatres. Obviously he's been involved in a lot of projects behind the scenes (he hasn't been sitting around twiddling his thumbs), but it's going to be great to see him in the director's chair again. However, whether Don Hall, Big Hero 6's other co-director, is excited about this, who knows. We never really get the inside scoop about how the original director feels when suddenly it's decided the film needs a second one. Disney did this same thing recently with Frozen: Chris Buck was the solo director until it was decided about a year and half before Frozen's release to bring in the film's screenwriter, Jennifer Lee, as a second director.

The quiet swapping out of producers is another question mark in how Big Hero 6 is faring behind the scenes. It seems like an odd and drastic move to completely change producers this late in the game. Reed had been a production executive for a number of DreamWorks films in the mid 2000s and recently produced the 2012 short Paperman. Moving to produce a feature seemed like a the next obvious step. However, it may have been just a bit too much to handle. Ronli has an excellent track record with Disney with producing Tangled, Treasure Planet and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so Big Hero 6 is still in good hands. (Not to mention John Lasseter is still overseeing the whole thing as executive producer.)

Who knows when these two changes happened. They could have happened months ago, for all we know. Whatever the timeline, let's hope that this doesn't mean that Big Hero 6 is facing production troubles. It's a film that many Disney and Marvel fans are anxiously waiting to see and it would be a shame if the film was pushed back. Most likely, these changes are for the better and will ultimately make the film even better for its November release date.

Here's the footage of San Fransokyo, the fictional San Francisco-Toyko hybrid city, for Big Hero 6:

What do you think of the new director and producer?

Frozen has had quite a box office run and it looks like it's not quite over yet. This past weekend, Frozen earned an estimated $28.8 million, putting it at the number two spot behind The Hobbit. This puts the film's domestic total at $248.4 million, pacing it to beat out The Lion King's domestic record of $311.5 million.

If you think these numbers are no big deal, let's put it in context. This is the film's 5th weekend out in theatres and Frozen has to battle it out through two very competitive slots: Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has come out of both of those weekends victorious, ranking in the top three each week. Also according to Box Office Mojo, Frozen’s performance this week was the third highest-earning 5th weekend of all time, behind only Avatar and Titanic, ($30M), which each earned $42.8 and 30 million, respectively.

This weekend's box office performance is a bump up from the third place finish Frozen had last weekend, where it earned $19.8 million. That weekend allowed Frozen's domestic gross to move it ahead of both Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled, which each ultimately earned 191.6 and 200.8 million, respectively.

Looks like Disney's marketing claims that this is the "greatest Disney animated event" since The Lion King may not have been that far fetched. For decades, The Lion King's records have been the mac daddy of Disney animation

Do you think 'Frozen' will beat 'The Lion King''s record? What is your guess for how much the film will make domestically?

Walking with Dinosaurs is BBC film based on a 1999 documentary miniseries of the same name. The difference is that this Walking with Dinosaurs iteration is that it not only teaches us about dinosaurs, but it also does so by weaving it into an interesting narrative. The film features computer animated dinosaurs in live-action settings. And boy, is it pretty. The CGI characters perfectly blend into the backgrounds and never seem out of the place. For the most part, the dinosaurs are very lifelike and realistic: no goofy faces, cartoony reactions or moving mouths. Book ended by two modern-day scenes of a disinterested teen who would rather chill on his cell phone than excavate some fossils with his sister and uncle in Alaska, Walking with Dinosaurs tells the story of three Pachyrhinosaurus named Patchi, Scowler and Juniper. Patchi and Scowler are brothers, with Patchi being the runt and Scowler being the over sized bully. Juniper is from a different herd, but very quickly catches the eye of the brothers. The story is narrated by a prehistoric bird, an Alexornis appropriately named Alex. The story follows the Pachyrhinosaurus as they grow up, migrate, and face the dangerous world of the Cretaceous period. There are only four talking characters in the movie--Alex, Patchi, Scowler and Juniper--and I thought that was a smart choice. To keep the movie from becoming Talking with Dinosaurs, these four characters do not move their mouths and speak, but rather their thoughts are simply voiced over. Even when they are speaking, they don't have any human characteristics at all: no raised eyebrows, no smiles, nothing; they act and behave only as dinosaurs really would millions of years ago. All other characters make appropriate grunts and roars, but never speak with the main characters in any human way.

Now, let's be real here. The dialogue (and love plot) is rather simply and very cheesy at times. I wonder why it was even needed at all. The story could have been presented with a narrator much like March of the Penguins and it would have been equally as engaging and fun, even for younger audiences. I think this would have made the film appeal to a wider audience because the voice-over dialogue in the trailers seem to dumb it down, making people think it's a kid's movie. That being said, I found this movie incredibly interesting. It excellently strikes a balance between being both educational and entertaining. The educational elements are fun: whenever we are introduced to a new species of dinosaur, the action stops, the dinosaur is brought to the front on a black background and a voice tells us it's name and the name's meaning. Then we un-pause and the action starts again. While some would think that this would ruin the momentum, it did not. It was fun to learn the name, see how it was spelled and ultimately leave the theatre a little more educated. Now, these educational segments stopped roughly halfway into the movie, which was a shame. I would have liked to be introduced to even more dinosaurs, even if they were somewhat insignificant to the plot.

I praise the types of dinosaurs the filmmakers chose to highlight in this film because they were rather unconventional and lesser known species. You won't see any Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus or Triceratops; instead you'll meet new species like Pachyrhinosaurus, Gorgosaurus, Edmontosaurus and more. If you have younger children, particularly boys, they will love this film. Both my nephews, ages 5 and 3, who I took with me said they liked it more than Frozen (and trust me, they love Frozen). The animation, effects and characters were all computer animated and splendidly done. I was awe-struck at how well the characters blended into the live-action backgrounds. The backgrounds were shot in Alaska and New Zealand using the cutting-edge 3D Fusion Camera System used by James Cameron in Avatar. The final result is dynamic, incredibly realistic and worth seeing.
Walking with Dinosaurs is educational and surprisingly entertaining. The dialogue is a bit unneccesary, but at least it's scaled back to only a few characters. Overall, don't count Walking with Dinosaurs out. It's one final animation film of 2013 that's worth seeing.
★★★1/2

The Blu-ray cover doesn't show the CGI characters as they appear in the film--the designs are a weird mashup of CGI and 2D.
