Tonko House is probably one of the most exciting up and coming animation studios in the United States. After releasing its first animated short, The Dam Keeper, in 2014, the studio has been involved in a ton of very exciting projects: a feature film adaptation of The Dam Keeper, an educational program featuring the characters from The Dam Keeper, and a Dam Keeper graphic novel among other projects. But while working on those projects, the studio has also been in development of its second animated short, Moom, which will be released this year.
Even though we don’t have an official release date for when and where the short will premiere (most likely at a film festival later this year), Tonko House has slowly been teasing us with concept art and behind the scenes clips of the short on its social media outlets. Starting last week and continuing today, the studio has released two new Making of Moom clips on its YouTube channel. The clips reveal some of the first details about the short as well as feature some of the first exclusive footage from the short.
The second Making of Moom part, which was released on YouTube today, features Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi talking about their personal connection to the story of Moom as well as some animatic storyboards and a short animation test of one of the short’s characters.
Moom definitely seems to be a project to look out for in 2016. When more information on the short or a release date get announced, we’ll be sure to cover it on the site.
