Additional ‘The Angry Birds Movie’ Stills and Story Details Released

Earlier today, IGN released two additional stills from the upcoming The Angry Birds Movie on its site. Additionally, earlier this week several press outlets were invited by Sony to a presentation in London during which several clips from the film were previewed. The Angry Birds Movie is based off the incredibly popular Angry Birds mobile game and will tell the origins story of these creatures.

Today, two new stills and some additional story details for the film were released in addition to the stills and story details that were revealed last week. A first teaser trailer for the film was also screened during the event and is due to come out next week, just in time for the release of Hotel Transylvania 2.

Matilda (Maya Rudolph)

According to IGN, the film’s story will resolve around Red (Jason Sudeikis) who lives – with all the other birds you know from the game – on Bird Island. It’s an untouched paradise, and the birds have never met any creatures from other places. On the island eggs are the bird’s most treasured possessions, as they are all living an easy-going and cheerful life on the island.

There are a few exceptions, though. Red is the film’s lead character and he is angry. During the presentation, several flashback scenes show in which Red loses his temper on several occasions and in which he is sent to court where he is sentenced to an anger management course. His teacher at the course is Matilda (Maya Rudolph) who has some anger issues herself. In the class he also meets some other birds including Chuck (Josh Gad), who moves fast, talks fast, and, according to IGN, delivered some of the funniest lines in the presentation. Another member he meets is Bomb (Danny McBride), who suffers from IED (Intermittent Explosions Disorder).

The story really kicks off near the end of the first act when a boatful of the iconic green pigs (with Bill Hader and Tony Hale, along more comedians) arrive at Bird Island. The pigs and birds befriend each other at first, but Red does not trust them as he believes they might have different intentions.

The Angry Birds Movie will open in theaters on May 20, 2016.

What do you think of these stills? Are you looking forward to The Angry Birds Movie?
