Poor poor Korra. Nickelodeon has pulled the rug from under The Legend of Korra and is now going to air it exclusively on digital platforms rather than on its network.

After this Friday’s episode airs–episode 8 “The Terror Within”–all remaining episodes will begin airing exclusively online. This is good news for fans, who have been asking for a means to watch the show online for a long time. The remaining five episodes will air weekly on Nick.com and the Nick app starting on August 1. You will additionally be able to watch the show on platforms like Amazon, Google Play, Xbox and Hulu.

Since the beginning of Book 3, the popular and critically acclaimed series has been setup for failure. Last month, a few of the first episodes from Book 3 were leaked early online, forcing Nickelodeon to preemptively and rashly start airing the new season with just one week’s notice.

To make up for the leaked episodes, Nick premiered three episodes at once, followed by airing two episodes at a time. This rushed effort disoriented fans, who weren’t even aware that the series had begun airing. As a result, its ratings were less than stellar.

This news doesn’t immediately mean that there will be a cancellation of the series, although it does seem to point in that direction. Book 4 was renewed last year and is already in production, so Korra fans can breath until then. However, a future Beyond Book 4 looks bleak.

Korra creator Bryan Konietzko release this image on his Tumblr. Some might interpret this as hope for fans, but in reality, it’s just seems like he’s trying to put on a brave face for the fans. I guess we’ll have to wait until until tomorrow, July 25, at The Legend of Korra Comic-Con panel to hear more about Korra‘s fate.
