The 7th edition of the Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival ended this year on September 27. It proved to be a big success and one of its most popular highlights is the awarding of best stop-motion movie of the year.

MSMFF had animation stations where everyone could explore stop-motion techniques. This year’s included puppets, object animation, and claymation. Special screenings and guests can also be credited to the festival’s popularity; they included PES, Laurie Sitzia, Cordell Baker, and artists who worked on the film The Little Prince (the latter of whom picked up an award for ‘Best Professional Film’). This year’s 7th edition had a significant increase of attendees at the conferences and screenings, which shows its popularity. The short film competitions attracted over five hundred festival-goers and the special presentation honoring the artisans behind the film The Little Prince attracted nearly two hundred visitors. However, the most popular activity was the presentation of If I Was God… – which was screened in 3D – and was followed by an insightful lecture by Cordell Barker and his creative team. Of course, this sold out fast.

For the first time in its seven year history, the Festival held a meeting with filmmakers in the short film competitions. A dozen filmmakers from six countries, including South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, and Canada, attended the event and its success means the MSMFF team plans to hold something similar again next year.
