The sequel to My Little Pony: Equestria Girls is ready to rock.

My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks will be making its theatrical debut in over 300 US and Canadian theatres on September 27. To see if it’s playing at a theatre near you and to purchase tickets, visit mlpeg.com.

The movie will follow the Ponyville gang as they travel back to the human world to compete in Canterlot High’s musical showcase. They form a rock band called The Rainbooms, but face some fierce competition from a new girl group, The Dazzlings, whose lead singer includes a reformed Sunset Shimmer who has more devious plans than just winning a musical competition.

Hasbro seems to think that the original Equestria Girls film was a success. It barely made a dent in its theatrical release; however, it sold like hotcakes once it was released on home video. It’s no wonder that the studio is following it up with a sequel.

Fans, on the other hand, panned the show, saying that it deviated from what made the series so successful, namely that the main characters were ponies, not pony-esque humanoids. Nonetheless, there are no plans for a feature-length MLP film that will star the main characters in the pony forms.

Film synopsis:

MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: RAINBOW ROCKS the movie finds Canterlot High (CHS) hosting a musical showcase, and Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are going to be performing with their new band, The Rainbooms. But when The Dazzlings, a new girl group, arrive at CHS and convince everyone to turn the friendly showcase into a Battle of the Bands, tensions mount between the competing musical acts. A now-reformed Sunset Shimmer realizes that the Dazzlings may not be ordinary girls and are after something far more sinister than just being named Best Band at Canterlot High. The Rainbooms call on Princess Twilight to restore harmony to their world to help them perform a musical counter-spell so that they can win a battle that now determines the fate of the entire school!

After the film is released in theatres, it will be available on DVD and Blu-ray a month later on October 28. Pre-order on Amazon here.
