The Nut Job may not have been a huge critical success, nor been a massive financial success, but it has still broken records as far as low budget features go, earning $25.7 million on its opening weekend, also making it the highest grossing animated film on record for the month of January.
Now, according to Variety, the producers of the film, all four of them (Open Road Films, Redrover Co. Ltd., ToonBox Entertainment Ltd., and Gulfstream Pictures), have decided to move ahead with The Nut Job 2 and have set a release date of January 15th 2016.
Hopefully, January will begin to see more decent low budget films, which will in turn start to set the bar higher.
