Frozen: The Essential Guide is a beautiful book filled with stills from Disney’s newest animated film Frozen. Flanking the stills is information about the film, little quizzes and other fun facts. Initially, I was really excited to read Frozen: The Essential Guide because I expected a big all-expansive book about Frozen that was fun for every age; however, the book turned out to be a little different.

When you first open Frozen: The Essential Guide, you immediately get sucked inside the world of Frozen. Each page is filled with high-res stills, allowing you to revisit your favorite scenes scenes without having to watch the film. The layout of the book is nice, as it includes a vast amount of stills.

In addition to the still, each page features information about the scenes and who the characters are. If you’ve seen Frozen, then all this info is a bit redundant and just a regurgitation of what you saw on screen. The text doesn’t add any value so you’ll probably just skim it or ignore it. This is a great book for younger children who are learning to read or who really enjoyed the film as they can reread the adventures of the film. On the other hand, if you’re a teenager or adult, this book might not be that exciting since actually watching the film is preferable.

The little fun facts and ‘True or False’ in this book are OK, but again, it’s more fun for the younger readers. Fun facts like the favorite food of the characters are fun to know but not really life changing. The Art of Frozen, however, contains a lot of new information and fun facts that older readers would want to know. Older readers will probably enjoy reading The Art of Frozen more, as it provides more behind-the-scenes info about the making of Frozen.

Frozen: The Essential Guide is a nice little informational book about Frozen but it’s nothing spectacular. While I really enjoyed going back to the world of Arendelle through the gorgeous stills, the information tidbits were a bit of a downer as I really hoped to discover some facts I didn’t know already. This book is really isn’t the “essential guide”: yes, it provides the basics and essentials about the movie, but for people who have seen the film, it’s not that essential.
