There’s nothing Millennials love more than a good ol’ Throwback Thursday. So to celebrate the premiere of the seventh season of the hit show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Hasbro has released a fun parody video inspired by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Check out the lyrics below:

Now this is a story and it’s not even tragic
about how we all learned that friendship is magic.
And I wanna make sure that there’s nothing I skip
When I’ll tell you how I came to know the Princess of Friendship…

In western Equestria, born and raised,
on the rock farm is where I spent most of my days.
But Ponyville’s where Twilight Sparkle met me
Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity,
She wrote one little letter sent to Celestia,
who said, [imitating Celestia] “It’s the friends you have made that have saved Equestria.”
She’s even traveled through time so try not to get weirded
when I tell you that she met Starswirl the Bearded!
She’s got wings and a castle, so don’t even trip
She’s Twilight Sparkle, the Princess of Friendship!

The seventh season of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic premieres this Saturday, April 15th at 11:30 a.m. ET on Discovery Family.

What did you think of the MLP Fresh Prince video? Are you excited for the premiere of the seventh season?

    Seriously Hasbro, just stop.

  • Anonymous

It’s kind of clever, but the idea behind it just makes it seem like they’re trying too hard for attention.

    • Marielle

Maybe the people working on the show are of the generation that watched Prince of Bel air when they were young, so they’re just having fun creating this promotional video.

  • Míriam

Lol! I loved the video, it turned out super fun! I’m pumped for season 7.

  • Bob Smith

I’m surprised the show has been able to continue this long, and there were even hints of a season 8. As for season 7, I’m currently feeling neutral.

  • Yesss new episodes! I need some uplifting ponies back in my life. The rap video was meh. Was her voice squeakier than usual? ‘Cause I could barely understand some parts. I always have to appreciate 90’s throwbacks though!

    • Jeremiah

Hasbro really keeps the eps rolling. This is why I’m always grateful I’m a brony and not Steven Universe obsessed.

      • I love both.

        • Jeremiah

          Good! It’s a great show.

  • Fresh Prince was before my time. This song cover is both clever and kinda cringe-worthy.

  • Lol that was SO FUNNY!! I haven’t seen Fresh Prince (early 2000s kid…) but definitely familiar with the theme, such a fun way to kick off Season 7!! :DDD

  • Jeremiah

Not a clue what Fresh Prince is. But it’s Pinkie rapping, so.

    • Yellow

I’m not sure if you wanted an answer but if you’re curious, it was a show in the 90’s, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This video is a parody of the theme song.

  • Dante Panora

I haven’t kept up with the show since season 4 (I feel as though season 3 felt like an appropriate conclusion to Twilight’s arc). But I’ve heard they made some really good episodes since, and I am looking forward to that movie.
