‘DuckTales’ Reboot Voice Cast Announced!

I know I was already excited for Disney XD’s reboot of the classic Disney Afternoon cartoon, DuckTales, but – oh my word you guys – wait until you see who’s playing the characters! This morning Disney XD released a video to its YouTube channel featuring the new cast singing the theme song, and I’m just going to let you watch it before I go on. (Wait until you see who’s playing Uncle Scrooge!)

I know, right!? Never in my wildest dreams would I have even thought to guess that the 10th Doctor himself would be a part of this project! I was already looking forward to this show, but it’s just rocketed up to my most anticipated new animated show of 2017, and second most anticipated show after Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

In addition to the incomparable David Tennant as Uncle Scrooge, rounding out the cast of ducks are Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, Kate Micucci as Webby VanderQuack, and Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The casting of three different actors for the trio of nephews is a pretty great step up from the original cartoon, in which they were all voiced by the same voice actress and were, for all intents and purposes, sort of interchangeable. Hopefully they’ll be given distinct personalities to go with their distinct actors.

These voices are all huge names in comedy, and I am just stoked about everyone! Kate Micucci has just the perfect voice for this, plus she’s hilarious, and Ben Schwartz has been one of my favorite people since his days as Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation. Plus, as a fan of Doctor Who, I am beyond excited to see David Tennant as the one and only Scrooge McDuck!

No word on any voices for supporting characters or Donald Duck as of yet, but I am expecting that Tony Anselmo, the current voice of Donald Duck in everything else, as well as the voice of Donald in the original DuckTales, will be taking up the role. Other favorite characters expected to make an appearance include Scrooge’s butler Duckworth, Donald’s cousin Gladstone Gander, inventor Gyro Gearloose, superhero Gizmoduck, and villains Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell, and Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys.

Last week Disney XD also released a very brief teaser for DuckTales, and while it isn’t quite as exciting as this news, it’s still worth a look.

What do you guys think of this cast? Are you as excited as I am? Let us know in the comments below!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Am I as excited as you? The Doctor himself is Scrooge McDuck? A beloved cartoon is coming back, which plays upon nostalgia? No Mr. North, I am not as exited as you… I AM MORE EXCITED THAN YOU!!!!

    • I wonder if there is an adequate way to measure an individual’s excitement. A way to truly know who the most excited person is. :p Judging from the fact that David Tennnat was one of the most trending topics on Facebook just two hours after Disney XD’s video went live, I’d say we are not alone. 🙂

Hewy Dewy and Louie are different actors!? But their interchangeable voices are part of their charm. Oh well, I’m sure it’ll have its advantages. It makes sense that they’d grow more distinct as they grew up.

So far, everything seems to have effort put into it. I love the designs, the original song, everything seems to have a sense of how special this is. Is Gladstone Gander officially announced, or are you just guessing, Jonathan? He’s one of the best characters in the comics but he was barely in show.

    • That list of characters has been floating around for over a year, and was included in Disney’s original press release, so I’m assuming it’s official. Here’s a link if you’d like to see for yourself. 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me!

“. Other beloved characters slated to be in the new stories are: Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack.” I’m happy to see the Beagles will be individualized like in the show… but no Gladstone there. Did it list him before?

        • There are two different press releases, the most recent one, the one from the voice cast announcement, includes him.

          • Jeremiah

Gotcha, thank you. I’m GLAD, if he wasn’t in my heart would sink like a STONE. Ha hah ha ha ha!… Ha. His personality is such a force, all the characters react splendidly to him.

  • Love it, wished we he would’ve heard some clips of them voicing the characters, but this is good too.

    • I hope they’ll do something like that leading up to the premiere! I’d love to see the cast doing the voices!

  • Bob Smith

Now I’m hoping the original theme song will be used in the intro for the new show.

    • Ryan Prieto

We can only hope its one of the great creations of the 90’s

    • It has been heavily featured in the latest two videos from Disney XD, and given the iconic status of the song, I am fairly confident that it’ll be used in the show. They’d be foolish not to! They have to! 🙂

    • Manuel Orozco

I rather wait to hear it on the new show.

  • This looks really solid!! I so love some of the SNL cast joining in! I am liking what I’m seeing 🙂

  • ^-^ The song fills me with nostalgia and joy.

  • Manuel Orozco

I was skeptical about this reboot at first. Mainly because I’ve seen reruns of the original on Toon Disney as a kid! However, I’ll give this a shot for the sake of childhood nostalgia and I was born after the original TV show’s successful three year run.
