We have learned from various news sites (including Variety) the sad news that the actor Alan Young has passed away at the age of 96 of natural causes. Alan Young (1919-2016) wasn’t known only for his longevity but also for his appearances in many films and television shows over the years. Some of these included The Time Machine, Tom Thumb, The Cat from Outer Space, and the sitcom about a talking horse, Mister Ed.
But people in animation and Disney circles knew him best as a voice actor. His most famous voice role, by far, was that of the richest animated duck ever in history, Scrooge McDuck. Starting with the 1983 short, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Mr. Young voiced Scrooge McDuck in multiple films and television shows over the years including DuckTales, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas, House of Mouse, Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, and Mickey Mouse.
Other voice-role credits of Mr. Young include The Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show, TaleSpin, The Incredible Hulk, Batman: The Animated Series, and The Great Mouse Detective (as Hiram Flaversham). Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends for he shall be missed!
