‘Steven Universe’ Return Date Announced and Teaser Trailer Released

Trio

Steven Universe will be back a month earlier than previously revealed! EW is reporting that the third season premiere of Steven Universe will take place in May, starting with a four-week long event that Cartoon Network is calling In Too Deep. The season kicks off on Thursday, May 12th with a half hour long episode, followed by three more weeks of new episodes through June 2nd.

As previously reported, Steven Universe will be celebrating the Summer of Steven all summer, starting in June. Whether that means there will be another short break after this event, or it will go right into the rest of season three, has not been revealed. Hopefully we’ll have more details on that soon.

Cartoon Network has also released a teaser trailer for the event, and boy does it look intense! Obviously, spoilers ahead.

From this trailer, we learn that the In Too Deep event is going to focus heavily on Malachite, who will finally be making her way to the surface, and from the looks of things, Lapis Lazuli has completely lost control of the fusion. It would appear that Jasper is fully in charge here, as evidenced by Malachite’s attack on the gems.

Some other things of note in the trailer—the Watermelon Stevens are back! How great is that shot of Malachite rising out of the water in front of one of the tiny little Stevens? And Alexandrite is back! I can’t wait to see how that fight goes down!

Plus, the cluster! The drill! Yellow Diamond! And that song! I am loving the dark, foreboding take on the theme song! I really hope that this incarnation of the song ends up somewhere in one of these episodes! I doubt that it will end up being the permanent new opening for the show, but maybe for this event? Either way, I hope we get to hear the whole thing soon!

What about you? What did you think of this trailer? Are you pumped for In Too Deep?
