Watch the First Trailer for Disney’s ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Remake

Yesterday, Disney released the first promo poster for Pete’s Dragon. Today, the first teaser trailer for the 2016 remake is here and it sure looks good.

The trailer is dark and mysterious, and feels like anything but an updated version of a classic family film. However, it seems like despite the creative liberties and changes, this new version will be able to make its own mark and delight fans – both old and new –  in a fresh new way. Some scenes, especially the awesome looking CGI dragon, look amazing already.

This new Pete’s Dragon film isn’t just a remake, but is also a ‘reimagining’ in that it seeks to tell a different story under the same title. In this new version, a forest ranger, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) seeks to find out the truth behind a legendary creature that is said to reside in the woods around the Pacific Northwest. Grace meets a mysterious 10-year old boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley) and discovers that Pete’s friend is a dragon he calls Elliott.

Pete’s Dragon is based on the 1977 Disney animated/live action family classic of the same name. It is directed by David Lowery, written by Toby Halbrooks and David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker. It also stars Oona Laurence, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Oscar winner Robert Redford and releases on August 12, 2016.

What do you think about the Pete’s Dragon trailer?
