According to Cartoon Brew, we learn of the animated film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero being made. The animated film is based on a true story from WWI in which a stray dog bonded with some American soldiers. The dog, known as Stubby, would later become the first dog to receive the rank of “Sergeant” from the United States Army!

The animated film will be made by Fun Academy Motion Pictures (its first animated film), with the animation being handled by Mikros Image. The consultant director is said to be Dan St. Pierre, who previously directed Everyone’s Hero, Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey, and Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return. He also worked on a few Disney films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Helena Bonham Carter and Gérard Depardieu are the only announced voice cast so far. The film is set for an April 2018 release to mark the 100th anniversary of America’s involvement in WWI.
