Stop-motion animation and the work of the Brothers Quay are the subject of Christopher Nolan’s new documentary short titled Quay.

Identical Pennsylvania-born twin brothers, Stephen and Timothy Quay, are known for their creepy and macabre stop-motion animation shorts, as well as their feature-length stop-motion movies Institute Benjamenta and The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes. Their work will be the showcase of the documentary, which will be shown at the Brothers Quay week-long retrospective starting on August 19 at the Film Forum movie theater in New York.

Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar, is also the curator of the retrospective and his documentary Quay is in the can and ready to be shown. It will be presented along with the Brothers Quay short films In Absentia (2000), The Comb (1991), and Crocodiles (1986) in 35mm. The short films and the documentary will also be on tour across the US, following a Blu-ray release.
