[BOOK REVIEW] The Color of Pixar

[BOOK REVIEW] 'Now Playing: A Seek-and-Find Book for Film Buffs'

Now Playing: A Seek-and-Find Book for Film Buffs is an all new seek-and-find book created by French illustrator Alexandre Clérisse. Most of us probably grew up with the Where’s Waldo? seek-and-find books, and Clérisse uses that same idea with completely different worlds we’re all familiar with.

Now Playing: A Seek-and-Find Book for Film Buffs takes you through the worlds and films of 12 world renowned filmmakers. Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson, Michel Gondry, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Pedro Almodóvar, Ethan & Joel Coen, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino and their works are all featured in the book. Each director has a spread filled with gorgeous art that compiles their most famous works. Each spread also features a list of characters, props, and other iconic things from their most famous works which you have to look for in the illustration. Each spread is followed by another spread that reveals where to find all the hidden characters and props.

[BOOK REVIEW] 'Now Playing: A Seek-and-Find Book for Film Buffs'

The book’s illustrations by Alexandre Clérisse are definitely the reason why you should get this book if you’re interested. His illustrations are simply some beautiful pieces of art that are really well put together. From the composition to the colors to the way he intermingles all these worlds and films into one illustration, it’s great. I’d definitely advise any art, illustration or graphic design student to just go through this book for the that alone.

Now Playing: A Seek-and-Find Book for Film Buffs is a fun book. However, the book isn’t very challenging. While the illustrations are gorgeous to look at, it’s unlike the Where’s Waldo? books; it’s very easy to find all the characters and props, and you can finish the book quite easily in very little time. It’s definitely a fun book you should consider buying if you’re a film buff yourself, and it would be a great present to give to any movie enthousiasts in your life. It’s simply not an essential in your book collection.
