Yes, but in the case of Dragon’s Lair, there are ways to appeal to a new audience without having to change the title for reasons that wouldn’t matter if the film tanked or not.

Another thing, I think it does seem necessary for Dragon’s Lair to appeal to a new generation. Back to Disney talk, I actually thought Princess and the Frog was okay and did not stand out for me. I did not see Winnie the Pooh because I feel too old for it.

The ad campaign really fooled me too especially with the teaser that was attached to Toy Story 3! I really liked it but it’s not a favorite of mine. Now you know my friend. Even Manilow was supposed to have a voice role in the movie. I’m hoping for a promising comeback for him before he kicks the bucket and his work will be given the respect it so truly deserves. By the way, the plans for Rapunzel was actually part of a contract between Bluth and Manilow to do three films together. First was Thumbelina and Pebble and the Penguin. Because Pebble failed and Bluth’s studio in Ireland suffered bankruptcy, the deal was off.

Same here. Before I was dragged to theaters by a good friend of mine, I wanted to avoid Tangled at all costs. Thank goodness the ad campaign didn’t speak for the film. I loved it!
So Don Bluth tried to make a Rapunzel film too? I didn’t know that! Here’s to hoping his ideas will translate to a great Dragon’s Lair movie!

I did not see Tangled because of how odd it looked plus the only thing I knew about Rapunzel at the time was seeing parts of the Barbie movie and the evil one from Shrek the Third. A friend of mine told me it was good so I rented it on Netflix DVD four years ago. Little known fact, Don Bluth was going to do his own version of Rapunzel back in the 90’s with music by Barry Manilow who also did Thumbelina and Pebble and the Penguin. However because Pebble failed in theatres, the plans were scrapped and Bluth moved from Ireland to Arizona in Fox Studios to work on Anastasia.
