‘9 Lives of Claw’ Offers 90’s-Style 2D Animated Mayhem, Seeks Supporters

No, it’s not a fan-produced Fritz the Cat cartoon.

The Nine Lives of Claw is a 2D hand-animated cartoon that, from what I could tell, looks like a lost Saturday morning cartoon from the 90s that I would have been crazy for.

The series, co-created by Gary Pilla and Greg Scheetz, boasts a diverse animation crew drawn from several big-name studios, including Disney, DreamWorks, Sony, and LAIKA. The project will be directed by Alessandro Ongaro, a visual effects veteran whose most recent project was Kung Fu Panda 3. The series will also feature voice acting from Christopher Knights, known as the voice of Private the penguin of Madagascar fame.

The Nine Lives of Claw follows high-tech feline superhero Claw and his rodent side-kick Edison as they battle against the villains of M.U.T.T. (Malicious Urban Thugs and Thieves). Watching the series’ Kickstarter video, I was instantly reminded of some of my favorite childhood cartoon shows, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Inspector Gadget, and SWAT Kats. I mean, just look at some of these villains:

Yesterday we received word from Christopher Knights that the project still needs more support to get off the ground. Check out 9livesofclaw.com for support information, concept video, and more.
