Before I give this update in our Best Animated Feature series, I must admit that I feel foolish for having ignored the Golden Globes most of the time. Fortunately, I have caught myself on this, and I do plan to make further updates about it and mention it more often as the series comes to its conclusion. With that out of the way, on to our update…
Cartoon Brew has recently reported this week that 17 animated features have been deemed eligible for consideration for this year’s Golden Globe Awards!
Much like the 20 animated features that got submitted for the Oscars, these range from big blockbusters to international and indie productions. Here’s the full list:
- The Art of Happiness (Big Sur SRL, Italy)
- Big Hero 6 (Walt Disney Animation Studios)
- The Book of Life (Twentieth Century Fox and Reel FX Animation)
- The Boxtrolls (Laika)
- Cheatin’ (Bill Plimpton Studios)
- Henry & Me (Reveal Animation Studios)
- The Hero of Color City (Exodus Film Group)
- How to Train Your Dragon 2 (DreamWorks Animation LLC)
- The LEGO Movie (Warner Bros.Pictures/Village Roadshow Pictures/RatPac-Dune Entertainment/Lego Systems A/S/Vertigo Entertainment/Lin Pictures)
- Mr. Peabody & Sherman (DreamWorks Animation LLC)
- Penguins of Madagascar (DreamWorks Animation LLC)
- Pirate Fairy (DisneyToon Studios)
- Planes: Fire & Rescue (DisneyToon Studios)
- Rio 2 (Blue Sky Studios)
- The Snow Queen 2 (Wizart Animation, Russia)
- Song of the Sea (Cartoon Saloon)
- The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (Studio Ghibli, Japan)
With the exception of The Art of Happiness and The Snow Queen 2 (?), the majority of this list is made up of your usual suspects. Again, it’s bound to be a toss-up for the chosen few who get nominated.
Which brings us right to this: the nominees will be announced as soon as tomorrow. The awards themselves will be handed out on January 11, 2015.
