I understand why you feel that way, especially with How To Train Your Dragon 2 on the horizon, but IMO I’m willing to give it a pass since it kinda fits the stylistic, anime-inspired nature of the film. And it’s a much different style (thankfully) from Frozen, which is great as I personally think their best stuff is when they occasionally wonder away from their ‘princess’ brand.

disagreed. who is he? a mechanical genius. what does he do everyday? at home. what happens when u stay at home most of the time? ur skin is pale. Japanese people u know go outside. hiro’s skin tone is the perfect skin tone. he has the same skin as mine, and im Asian.

Hey, I’m Chinese too. He just looks quite pale to me. Most real Japanese people are slightly darker. Not the ones who want to be as white as possible obviously.

His eyes are opened wider than usual in the image anyway, but that’s not to say that East Asians cannot have large, round eyes? His face seems flatter than the normal Disney style, his nose is tall but small, and he has a rather pointed chin. Hiro’s a soy sauce face for sure. I think he looks fine.

And I say this as a Chinese person that consumes Japanese/Chinese/Korean entertainment and lives in the Asian majority Honolulu…

I think you should direct your criticism toward other characters instead. T. J. Miller let it slip that he’s voicing Fred and Disney tries their best to cast actors with the same race as the character, so it’s likely that Fredzilla was changed to a white kid. I just hope they did that to make him a weeaboo, that would be rather cute.

And easier to emulate realistically in animation than more tight fitting clothing perhaps?
