The Los Angeles Times uploaded an interview with five directors who worked on various animated films in 2013. The director’s panel includes Jennifer Lee (Frozen), Dan Scanlon (Monsters University), Chris Sanders (The Croods), Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2) and Chris Wedge (Epic) and they discuss everything animation.
It’s fun to see these five directors, all from different animation studios, together in an interview and I love they all agreed to do it. They discuss everything animation, including celebrity voice actors in animation, female characters, industry economics and multiculturalism.
Jennifer Lee started at Disney a few years ago when she wrote the screenplay for Wreck-it Ralph and Frozen; she also recently co-directed Frozen with Chris Buck. Dan Scanlon also made his debut to direct a full-length animated feature this year, he earlier directed some shorts and he worked in different departments at Pixar but Monsters University is his first full length animated feature.
Chris Sanders worked years for Disney, he worked on several classics from the renaissance and he directed Lilo and Stitch, he left Disney and directed How to Train Your Dragon at DreamWorks, this year he also directed The Croods at DreamWorks Animation. Chris Renaud directed Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, The Lorax as well as several shorts. Last but not least is Chris Wedge, who has directed three movies at Blue Sky studios, Ice Age, Robots and of course Epic. It’s rumoured he will also direct the 2015 Blue Sky studios movie Monster Trucks.
