It’s here! It’s here! Disney finally released the trailer to its highly anticipated video game film Wreck-It Ralph on MSN Entertainment. Disney picked the perfect week to release new new stills and hype the film: during the week of the E3, the largest video game expo in the world.
After an introduction by the voice of Ralph, John C. Reilly, the majority of the trailer shows the clips from the beginning of the film (which was the part mostly completed when I saw a test screening of the film in May).
Even though I’d already seen the film, this trailer still pumps me up even more to see the final product in November. Be prepared to geek out! The trailer definitely has the same cool, nostalgic vibe of the final film.
The trailer establishes the main bad guy (or is it good guy?) Ralph quite well. His dilema is clearly presented and as a viewer you feel for him. In the film, Ralph is quite lovable and genuine. Vanellope, on the other hand, comes off exactly as Ralph says, “Why are you so freakishly annoying?” But don’t worry, she’s annoying in a cute little sister, grow-to-love-you sort of way.
The animation looks fresh and polished. Oddly enough, during the screening I thought the film’s style felt like Illumination Entertainment; however, after watching the trailer this time, it feels a lot more like Pixar (or perhaps it should stand alone as the new feel of Walt Disney Animation?). My favorite parts of the trailer are the 8-bit introduction featuring Ralph in his native game environment, the Bad-Anon support meaning (Zangief: “Ralph, you are bad guy. But this does not mean you are bad guy.”), clips of players in the arcade and our first introduction to Vanellope von Schweetz.
Wreck-It Ralph hits theatres in the US on November 2, 2012.
