According to Cartoon Brew, the live-action/animated Chinese blockbuster, Monster Hunt, is starting its American theatrical run today. The 2015 Chinese film tells the story about a man who becomes impregnated with a monster child in an alternate past wherein humans and monsters used to live alongside each other. Now, it’s up to him and a female monster hunter to protect the child from being caught. You can check out the trailer below.
The film went on to become the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time grossing 2.438 billion yuan ($371 million US)! It’s directed by Hong Kong animator and director, Raman Hui, most famous for being a supervising animator for Shrek and Shrek 2 as well as a co-director for Shrek the Third.
American cinemagoers will have the option of either seeing an English dub of the film (said to be “the equivalent of a PG rating”) or the original Mandarin film with English subtitles. If you’re interested in seeing the film, click here to see a list of the cinemas that will be showing it.
