Disney has officially revealed a ton of official character images from their upcoming animated feature Frozen, complete with detailed info and story tidbits!

Are you ready? Strap yourself down, because these images are epic!

ANNA (voice of Kristen Bell)

Anna is more daring than graceful and, at times, can act before she thinks. But she’s also the most optimistic and caring person you’ll ever meet. She longs to reconnect with her sister, Elsa, as they were close during their childhood. When Elsa accidentally unleashes a magical secret that locks the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter, Anna embarks on a dangerous adventure to make things right. Armed with only her fearlessness, a never-give-up attitude and her faith in others, Anna is determined to save both her kingdom and her family.

ELSA (voice of Idina Menzel)

From the outside, Elsa looks poised, regal and reserved, but in reality, she lives in fear as she wrestles with a mighty secret—she was born with the power to create ice and snow. It’s a beautiful ability, but also extremely dangerous. Haunted by the moment her magic nearly killed her younger sister Anna, Elsa has isolated herself, spending every waking minute trying to suppress her growing powers. Her mounting emotions trigger the magic, accidentally setting off an eternal winter that she can’t stop. She fears she’s becoming a monster and that no one, not even her sister, can help her.

KRISTOFF (voice of Jonathan Groff)

Kristoff is a true outdoorsman. He lives high up in the mountains where he harvests ice and sells it to the kingdom of Arendelle. Rough around the edges, Kristoff’s the strong, no-nonsense type, who follows his own set of rules. He may seem like a loner, but he always has his best friend by his side—a loyal and extremely mangy reindeer named Sven.

OLAF (voice of Josh Gad)

He’s Olaf and he likes warm hugs. Sprung from Elsa’s magical powers, Olaf is by far the friendliest snowman to walk the mountains above Arendelle. His innocence, outgoing personality and uncanny ability to disassemble himself at good and not-so-good times lead to some awkward, albeit laughable moments. He may also have the world’s most impossible dream, but what he doesn’t know won’t melt him—or will it?

A reindeer with the heart of a Labrador, Sven is Kristoff’s loyal friend, sleigh-puller and conscience. He makes sure his mountain-man companion is the stand-up guy Sven knows and loves, and does so without saying a word. A few emphatic snorts usually get his point across. Life would be perfect if only Kristoff would lose that ridiculous reindeer voice he likes to use when speaking for Sven (as if reindeer really talk that way).

HANS (voice of Santino Fontana)

Hans is a handsome royal from a neighboring kingdom who comes to Arendelle for Elsa’s coronation. With 12 older brothers, Hans grew up feeling practically invisible—and Anna can relate. Hans is smart, observant and chivalrous. Unlike Elsa, Hans promises he’ll never shut Anna out; he just might be the connection she’s been waiting for all these years.

THE DUKE OF WESELTON (voice of Alan Tudyk)

What the Duke of Weselton lacks in stature, he makes up for in arrogance and showboating. He’s determined to get close to the new queen—that is, until Elsa’s magical secret is revealed. Then he’s the first to call her a monster and try to turn her own kingdom against her—anything that might help him exploit Arendelle’s tradable goods.

OAKEN (voiced by Chris Williams)

Oaken runs Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. But since Elsa’s massive winter storm hits in mid-July, he finds himself with a surplus of summer supplies. Deal-seekers beware: though he’s good-natured and helpful, if you cross him, Oaken won’t hesitate to throw you out of his humble establishment.

Marshmallow is an enormous icy snowman born from Elsa’s powers. He serves as a brute bodyguard charged with keeping intruders away from her ice palace. The menacing white beast doesn’t say much, but he packs a powerful punch.

Okay, first things first. these images look stunning! We know we stated that the animation in Frozen doesn’t look “top-notch”, but these images have exceeded expectations!

The story sounds pretty awesome, with all the new twists featuring the Duke and Oaken. And a snow monster named Marshmallow? That Elsa has a wicked sense of humor.

So much Frozen info, it’s crazy! Disney has officially opened the floodgates now and new stuff will just keep coming.

What are your thoughts on the new images? Do these images make you excited for Frozen?

Frozen hits US theatres Novmber 27.

  • Very excited! So much story and worldbuilding in these images. Just wish we could get a trailer here in the states!

  • Gary Wright

That picture of Elsa made my year.

  • JayEllCee12

I just get so excited seeing the first proper pictures of new Disney characters :’)
Thanks, Disney, for putting Elsa in that pose, you just made her look MORE awesome! Anna’s cute, Hans is BEAUTIFUL, and it’s interesting to see characters we haven’t seen before, like Oaken and the Duke.
GAH, I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a Disney movie since Tangled – and even then, I wasn’t that excited as I am now!

  • Max

It looks amazing! All the new characters and Elsa… i’m in love :$

  • There’s that suspicious blonde strand on hair on Anna again. 😉

    • Brianna

Since it says Elsa “haunted by the moment her magic nearly killed her younger sister Anna”, I’m thinking the blonde strand is a remembrance of that day.

      • max

Wooh! You are so right! It’s like a scar

        • Braden

Now it all makes sense! Maybe that small strand will give Anna powers? And is it just me or does Anna’s hair look white in the french poster we got a few days ago?

          • Brianna

No, I don’t think Anna is going to have any powers. Except her tears will probably melt the ice away…so if that counts…

          • Haha. Nice.

I do like the idea that the strand is less “a secret part of the plot” and just a remembrance of an accident that happend (i.e. scar). Seems fitting. And it’s just so darn cute and quirky to see on her character.

        • streakedlights

Oh my god. Now all I can think about is Harry Potter. So baby Potter gets a scar (and a part of Voldemort/his powers) when he’s attacked.
Could we expect some of Elsa’s powers to rub off on Anna after the accident? Her finding out about it could be a twist in the climax!

          • Brianna

I really don’t think Anna is going to get any powers. From one of the Rotoscopers’ earlier articles they stated this from the co-director: “She doesn’t have any superpowers,” said co-director Jennifer Lee. “But Anna is one of these ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing.”

Also, Harry Potter wasn’t the first fictional character to get a scar. haha

      • I love that bit – character healing from traumatic experience is a great arc, I think. 🙂

      • Guest

Now all I can think about it harry potter. Y’know, Voldemort attacking baby potter and Harry ending up with some of his powers?

      • Frozen

no anna had that streak when she was born

  • Ben Orosz

I love how they kept characters secret like Oaken! Really interested in finding out what he does and how he effects the sister’s story

  • Krysta

  • Brianna

Am I the only one that feels like Hans was modeled after Mr. Darcy? Which would be perfectly perfect considering my love for Mr. Darcy. haha

    • Which Darcy is this?

      • Brianna

Just how Darcy is generally depicted in film! Side burns, hair, clothing, etc. haha VERY Darcy-esque!

      • Brianna

A nice little comparison I made. haha

        • Nicely done! And the description does fit with Macfadyen’s “shy” portrayal. 🙂

  • PabloRuiz7

    I’m Team Marshmallow.

  • fashionistabookworm

I think they’ll make a love triangle out of Anna, Kristoff, and Hans (but I hope Kristoff will win, 😛 )

    • Brianna

I have a feeling that Anna probably sees herself with Hans in the beginning – possibly idealizing him. I definitely think she ends up with Kristoff. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Elsa ended up with Hans, and they had a sister wedding at the end!!

      • Juan Nunez

        TEAM HANS! only me? ok…

  • Edouard Dia

First of all, ALL the backgrounds are awesome, even the interior of the places…

    – Duke with his two big hunchmen is interesting…
    – Elsa on that still is half Kung Fu/half Marylin Monroe style…
    – Hans is hot, hotter than Kristoff i think… Do you see a spark of greed and evil deep inside those sweet loving eyes ???
    – The snow monster, with icy teeth and claws is… cool. Will he have an army of brothers ?

And about the new minor Oaken character unveiled ! He is so sweet and
funny and lovable ! half Bear/half muppet show, i’m loving it !

  • John

I think that the duke will be the villan . From the first day that i read the story and everything i felt Elsa was more of like Elphaba in wicked .

    • Charlie

Yeah, especially since her character description makes it sound like she’s not villainous at all (or at least, not willingly). The Duke, on the other hand, looks much more likely. If he is though, that’ll be two consecutive Disney villains voiced by Alan Tudyk.

    • Juan Nunez

i completely agree with you! i think that the moral of the story will be not to be too quick to judge someone, because of how the town judges elsa because she isn’t their idea of “normal” and i really hope the film teaches kids that lesson, specially because of how big bullying is right now!

  • Ange1Serran0

I love the images. They all look good. Yet I don’t feel like Hans or Kristoff are that good looking by Disney prince standards. Seeing the flowers on Anna dress I feel she’s gonna be mixed with the summer queen. Hopefully she has magical powers to.

  • Ariel

“Life would be perfect if only Kristoff would lose that ridiculous reindeer voice he likes to use when speaking for Sven.”
Lol we’ll probaly get some funny scenes with that. XD

  • Braden

The Duke is most likely the villain. I hope he is a good villain though, he seems kind of lame at the moment which makes me sad. I’m super excited for this film! Maybe Morgan was right, I think Disney took notice that no one liked the old designs and tweeked them a little big, Anna and Elsa look great! Elsa is going to be the star though!

  • killercharlie

I am loving Elsa more and more! Can’t wait to see her in action!

I’m still worried about the snowman and reindeer. Hopefully their “antics” won’t get in the way of the story.

  • MovieMan995

    Love, love Anna’s design.

Elsa’s face, not so much. But she looked nice in the coronation in that Japanese leaked material.

  • Gary Wright

Are those really the Duke’s henchmen? Maybe the younger one is his son and he was visiting Arendelle to set up a marriage between Elsa and his son? Hmm..

    • Brianna

Your comment gets me thinking…what if both of the henchmen are his sons? Then we’d have a sister/sister and brother/brother situation happening. Hmmm…

  • Tom

So much information! A month ago we didn’t even have the half of it

  • Aliscen Khaw

it says that Elsa nearly killed her younger sister ,so i’m guessing Anna’s strand of light coloured hair is probably due to that event, what do you guys think??

  • Juan Nunez

i really feel like hans is gonna be awesome. i don’t know, he just seems really cool, like a disney version of gatsby, ahaha. i LOVE anna’s design and elsa looks like superhero which is amazing, definitely excited for this movie. i know how most people want anna to end up with kristoff, but i ship anna and hans a LOT more!

  • Brandon Kelly

I think Disney has another Tangled hit coming! The images look great. What I love is the costumes of all these characters. Look at the detail of Anna and Elsa’s costumes, they are very pretty. The costumes have more detail than the costumes you see in Tangled. I wonder what Kristoff will be like? He does not look like a wise-cracking Flynn Ryder like character. He looks like rugged guy with a serious attitude. He also looks more natural instead of the dashing thief look of Flynn Ryder. Kristoff’s face look nice. Also, Alan Tudyk may be becoming the next Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton, David Odgen Stiers etc. in terms of being used in more than one Disney film.

    • Gary Wright

I agree, Kristoff seems WAY more interesting than Hans. Love the character designs and it’s nice to see Disney creating a unique “look” for their CGI films (like back in the 90s).

  • Eric Faulkner

Marshmallow reminds me of the Ice Titan from Kingdom Hearts.

  • DoNotEatRaw

**SPOILERS** I saw three possible romances in Frozen. The Ice-loving Kristoff, the Ice Queen Else, the socially-awkward princess Anna striving for more interactions with people, and the neglected (sorta) young prince Hans. I would have thought, matching up the people who seem most suited for each other, but it seems Disney took a new spin, cutting two of the three possible romances.
Ice Queeenx Ice lover: “Oh come on, ice is my life. . .” (Kristoff when asked to remain outside the Ice palace.) Well said. I’m a sucker for romance, but I’m also dead-set loyal.
So this would be my pairings
Elsa and Kristoff: Both loners who don’t mind the cold.
Anna and Hans: While Anna strives for more human interaction, Hans is looking for a place of his own, a place he doesn’t have to share with 12 other brothers.
And then we have the cute and awkward
Kristoff and Anna. I will not lie, the only forced romance was Elsa and Kristoff, BECAUSE IT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

Anna and Hans were cute, and listening to their duet, I couldn’t help but think of all their blue-green eyed ginger babies running around. Both of them were looking for a place in the world, and while Hans went about it the wrong way, they defiantly had intentional. Except the moment they got engaged. Oh, Disney is big on true love, but they’ll be darned if they let a romance like that fly out the window without hardly any screening. Hans did truly seem kind (right around when he was in charge), but Disney gave themselves away the moment Elsa refused.

Elsa and Kristoff: This was possible, yet not likely. I feel as though Kristoff is the non-magical male version of Elsa. They would have made a cute couple, both of them broken out of their socially impaired shell by the even more socially impaired Anna.

And Finally, Anna and Kristoff. I think this is. . . quirky? I feel like Disney was trying to transfer the romance between Rapunzel and Flynn over to Frozen. The not-so-prince-charming man, the awkward and bubbly princess, catch my drift? It was cute, I liked how Anna did things her own way, with Kristoff raising an eyebrow like “um, you okay?” (Rapunzel anyone?).

Honestly, Disney could have toyed around with the romance, giving each character another inner-struggle. Sorta how like you can’t choose whether you want Castiel or Dean Winchester to be you dream man. I was slightly disappointed with the romance, but this is four 9 year old’s, right? I’ll leave it be.

Elsa. Come on Disney! You have a character with so much potential and she get’s 15-30 minuets of screen play? You can do better! Expand her resign of other’s in her isolation (didn’t she need to go into town for food? And I didn’t see a bed. . .) Elsa could have been developed from a great character to a brilliant one! Get with the program! We don’t want to see Rapunzel on Ice, we want the confused Ice Queen who battles with her fears and disciplines. We want to see her struggle against her wants and fears, balancing them out to no avail. Why can’t we have it? Because Kristoff and Anna need “love”. Couldn’t he had be a really great friend, hinting little feelings in the end, and Anna rushing to her sister, not of her own needs, but to comfort her sister’s needs?

One last thing Disney. We got it 8 Princesses ago, “Love” conquers. “Love” melts the entire frozen kingdom and thaws a frozen statue. Wasn’t Elsa isolating herself out of love and concern for Anna’s safety? Disney needs an update. This kids don’t need a marriage to satisfy their thirstiness, the need role models who tell them that never fear being you, believe in yourself and you can thaw a frozen heart. Not “find love extremely fast (not too fast cause it’ll bit your butt later when he tries to kill you) but fast enough that if you so happen to be poisoned or frozen or your leg rental is running out, you can kiss him to make it better.
