I would have been fine with the princess reveal until the movie comes out too. But I do see some trailers in my semi obsessed need to know what to expect from a movie. At least I didn’t see the final trailers for Finding Dory or Coco.

I disagree. I feel like, no matter how much fun te Lego Batman movie was making of DC, it ended up honoring their heritage. I don’t think the princess scene does that. On the contrary, I felt it really reduced great characters and stories to cheap stereotypes in exchange of a quick gag. Other cameos also seemed so shallow, just “fan-girl-scream-seeking”.

I know it’s not fair to compare a trailer to a movie (and I’m hoping there’s more to it, like Barbie in the Toy Story movies end up playing an actual role), but the Lego Batman movie gave a much better perspective in their trailer than this movie…

I couldn’t agree more. Feels like they’re undermining their heritage for a cheap joke. The princess scene looks like something from a Shreck movie. What a shame! I was really looking forward for this, I didn’t expect the princesses to appear so shallow and oversimplified.

But, no matter how many times I see all these company logos together, it just feels gross to me. 🙁 It honestly feels just like a more polished version of The Emoji Movie. There’s a sketch way back when Chappelle’s Show was back on the air which was a parody of the internet, and it felt EXACTLY like this.

Never in my lifetime of watching movies (currently 22) has one looked like such a disgusting, self-aggrandizing love letter to its own mediaopoly.

Also, self-aware jokes about Disney princesses/fairy tale characters having similar traits and having flawed storylines have honestly been done to death, unless someone tries doing something more groundbreaking.

Oh well, here’s to it being okay at least. :/

Yeah.. It’s bugging me more than I’d like to admit that they got Cinderella’s hair color wrong, it’s supposed to be reddish blonde!! This Cinderella looks more like Tinkerbell, lol sheesh….and they all look kinda empty-headed for some reason. Maybe it’s because they’re web quiz versions? I was hoping Disney would chill with the self-mocking jokes lately…but I guess I’ll just have to bear all my nitpicks and hope the story is alright.

Actually, the marketing for Wreck-it Ralph 1 told you about Ralph’s underdog complex and what happens to video games when they’re left unattended. Haven’t been seeing anything like that in 2’s marketing though.

…but I wish Disney had NOT shown the princess scene in this trailer, or any future trailers.

Think about it. This is a sequel to a film that a lot of people loved, so it’s already got a built-in audience. People are GOING to see it, regardless of the trailers. It’s gonna make a ton of money, no matter if the reviews are good, bad, or indifferent. This trailer didn’t need to include the princess scene. This would have been awesome to see LIVE, not knowing it was coming. I know an audience saw this scene at D23, and we’ve all seen the images from the princess scene plastered on the Internet, so we KNEW it was happening…but I would have preferred seeing it for the first time in the MOVIE, not the trailer.

More and more, trailers are giving away the best scenes IN THE TRAILERS, to the point where I feel like, “Why do I need to see the film? You just showed me all the highlights!” I know the marketing team’s job is to SELL THE MOVIE, but sometimes, you don’t have to give it all away. Because it’s Disney, you can show some restraint. If it were a smaller studio that NEEDED to bring in the dough, I can see a trailer giving away lots of good stuff. But Disney doesn’t need to do that. People were, and are, going to see this film, regardless.

Now that I KNOW it’s coming, the surprise is gone. And I’m pretty sure there’s more to this scene than what we saw in the trailer, so not EVERYTHING was given away, but still. Just once, I’d like to go into a film not knowing so much about it beforehand. It’s getting to the point where I don’t even want to watch trailers anymore.
