For such a seemingly simple story, you sure wrote a well-rounded review! While this one honestly doesn’t interest me, I still appreciate these reviews because they give a good insight into different films that people (myself included) otherwise may never have even heard about. The caricatured style does sound interesting, even if the character designs do look a bit outrageous!

I didn’t know what to expect when I first watched this, but it left an impression. I was a budding Pixar fan when this came out and I’d never seen anything like this! It was a fun experience seeing an animated film with no dialogue, almost like the classic cartoons of the past which the film pays homage to.

The opening black and white sequence intentionally has a different style from the rest of the film, if that clarifies things on that front. I like to think the bizarreness was intentional as well; I’ve always enjoyed that zany aspect, to be honest. And the tap dancer is meant to be Fred Astaire, so perhaps those vengeful dancing shoes mean something open to interpretation. Most of the people highlighted in that sequence are caricatures of real-life famous people of the time.
I love your analysis of the animation design, and I think those are spot-on comparisons.
And I’m glad you found something you liked in the film anyway. It’s a fun film and it’s great that you gave it a try.

In reply to Chelsea Warner. This is a really good example of that kind of film. There is a bit of violence, but most of it is implied anyway. It's just such a great film, highly recommended.
