This seriously disappointed me. I knew it wasn’t going to be perfect, but I at least expected a lot of laughs and good new character moments. Sadly it just was a big waste of time for me and I barely remember it even now. sigh, oh well….

This movie does have a special place in my heart
as this was the first movie I saw in a theater in a
long time and it made me like movie theaters. As
for the movie itself, it’s fine. The animation is ok,
the story was fun but a little hallow. Basically, this
was a fun and entertaining movie. Not much else.

Considering that the penguins are without a doubt my favorite part of the Madagascar films, I had high hopes for this film. While not all of my expectations were met, this is still a good film with a great villain and some very funny moments. I think that it is on par with DreamWorks Animation’s other 2014 comedy, Mr. Peabody and Sherman. I liked the different settings, and the animation was very good, especially on Dave. The voice acting was also excellent. I would actually prefer seeing a sequel to this movie over a fourth Madagascar film though I would rather that DreamWorks focus on original films.

I don’t like Minions and I love Penguins of Madagascar, so it must come down to the humor. For me the silliness is great. They break into the highest security facility in the US… only to get a bag of chips from the vending machine. They ship themselves to Shanghai… no realizing they are already in Shanghai. Dave is a hilarious villain and the interactions between the North Wing and the penguins are great. I like that the penguins didn’t suddenly become heroes and that they don’t care to collaborate with North Wind. I think the animation is beautiful, especially in the chase scene in Venice and in the final action scene. It’s like an absurd James Bond movie for children.

I think it’s a solid film with some really good action sequences and warmhearting moments. Dave is a pretty good villain and also quite entertaining. I love the opening sequence when they’re young. Very different from the usual Madagascar story arc.
