I share these sentiments completely. Most of the Peanuts specials I’ve seen have been holiday-related, and The Great Pumpkin is hands-down my favorite. It carries a lot of nostalgia, and you’re right – it does sort of herald the start of the holiday season. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Christmas are also some of my favorites, but something about the quirkiness of this one makes it stand out.

I hate it when a Peanuts show ends in utter disaster! But then again it was Schulz mission to give us a look at the ups and downs of childhood in a way no one ever could have imagined. Which is why I prefer Charlie Brown Christmas and Thanksgiving combined. But I don’t watch the specials every year like most of my fellow Charlie Brown fans. Tonight instead of waiting for the Great Pumpkin, I’ll be cheering on the Dodgers in Game 6 of the World Series.
