I would put Jekyll and Hyde and Romeo et Juliette on the list.

Jekyll and Hyde is probably my all time favorite musical, but it often gets overlooked. It could explore on the complexity of the duality and the animation during the Confrontation sequence can be stunning.

Romeo et Juliette is not necessarily broadway, but it does have kind of a broadway feel. If an animated film could be made in the original French with English subtitles, I would be all for it!

In reply to Erica Davies. As much as I like the two to pass the torch to newcomers, that would be extra special. Like my wish to go back to 2003 came true. But if the live action adaptation gets 100% greenlit, I would love Kristin to pass the mantle of Glinda to her onscreen daughter Dove Cameron.

Wicked deserves to be an animated musical. What would be better is if they bring back Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth to play their beloved characters again. After the major success that Frozen was in 2013, we have seen that a story that focuses on a heroine who doesn’t understand herself can work. I would love to see that happen.

Some possible choices

– Cats (but they need more of a narrative)
– Starlight Express (Cinderella with trains)
– Wicked
– Young Frankenstein (for older audiences)

Great topic, I have been pondering about this for years! Personally, I think The Lion King would make an amazing animated film…. oh wait… 🙂 Hahaha
In all seriousness, Matilda the Musical might be fun! After all, we could use some of Roald Dahl’s books being adapted to animated films.
