The third installment was on par with the 1st movie but not the 2nd. Problems I had was I agree Shrek's storyline choosing between being king or father wasn't worthy of character evolution material like what came before. 2nd issue was it was not directly mentioned by Fiona that Artie is her cousin. As for the other princesses, it was cool to see them kick some behind but was corny to see them like how their stories started and not with their husbands.

Agree with all of this. Prince Charming made for a horrible villain. I also felt that they had no idea what to do with Donkey and Puss this time around, so they decided to just go for a body swap and let the hilarity ensue.

I don't think that this film is nearly as good as the first two, but I don't consider it to be a terrible film either. There are some legitimately funny moments, and the animation received a noticeable improvement. That being said, there are things that I strongly dislike about Shrek the Third, including Artie, the song selection, and Prince Charming's role as the villain (he was much more effective as a supporting villain in Shrek 2). This is not DrewamWorks' worst film, but it is among their weakest efforts.

I don't mind this movie, but I am rather a Shrek fan. What bothered me was the lack of continuity between Shrek 3 and 4 (I am not even going to mention the ones between Shrek and Shrek 2). I wanted at least a passing mention of Artie in the 4th one, as, other than the kids being born, it feels as though you could have skipped from 2 to 4 without much issue. If they were going to include Arthurian legends as fairy tales, they should have dipped into it more in the 4th movie instead of some odd time travel plot. (Talking about time travel, I have a weird deja vu feeling as I write this. I am sure I have had a similar convo before--probably on another Shrek article, lol!)
