Thanks for this insightful review! I haven’t seen Flushed Away myself; it’s one of those DreamWorks movies that I sort of forgot existed. From how you described it, Flushed Away sounds like a decent DreamWorks movie, but sort of a shoddy Aardman movie. I think I’ll go rewatch Chicken Run again instead.

Well….this is my least favorite Aardman film because of the animation on the characters (later improved by “Arthur Christmas”) and some of the jokes. But the slugs were always my favorite part of the movie.

I went into this film with fairly low expectations, so I can’t say that I was disappointed when I did watch it. This film does have some hilarious moments and a decent story, but it just doesn’t compare to the brilliance of Aardman’s earlier and later works. It does not appeal to adults nearly as much as some of their better films, and I think that it would have been at least slightly more enjoyable if Aardman had stuck with stop motion. I think that Flushed Away is decent, but it is underwhelming when one considers Aardman’s phenomenal track record in the years leading up to this film.

I love this movie so much. Roddy while might seem like a bad protagonist to some is actually one of my favourites and I love seeing his development throughout the film. I like the pacing in this movie. The movie knows when to settle down with some heartwarming moments and when to start a real exciting adventure or a peril sequence. I also really like Rita & Roddy’s relationship. They’re treated mostly like a equal duo with taking on the baddies and solving their problems. This is like before there was Tiana & Naveen, Rapunzel or Flynn on the adventure as two complete opposites getting along, and I think it’s very well made here. The slugs are ok but not my favourite although they bring out a little laugh here and there. In fact I also like the side villains Spike & Whitey they’re a fun duo. Summing it up, interesting characters, simple yet fun plot, clever jokes and great voice acting. It’s not everyone’s sip but this is my cup of tea.
