My friends and I wore out our soundtracks of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in school so I can identify with Chelsea on memorizing all the lyrics! “And if we have the time we can see the Sphinx!”

I remember after the success of “Prince of Egypt” and getting excited with the potential of Dreamworks adapting other biblical stories into animated films. (I recall the life of King David was mentioned in one article.) A shame they didn’t get it off the ground because this is a beautiful direct-to-video story. It doesn’t have the epic budget or scenery of “PoE”. But the smaller budget and simplistic tale focuses on Joseph and lets the viewer empathize and feel the intimacy and closure of his story.

I did feel that the story was rushed towards the end with Joseph discovering his brothers in Egypt and testing them. I wished the story could have expended on that more, at least 5-10 minutes. Though budget for animation must have had something to do with it. “Better Than I” is the standout song for the movie. And yes, any references to “Star Wars” make me very happy!
