Comments on: Disney Canon Countdown 49: ‘The Princess and the Frog’

Ok, at first, I was hoping that “Princess and the Frog” was going to be the new “Little Mermaid”, bringing in a new Renaissance in Disney’s legacy. But then, the more I’ve been through time, the more I felt disappointed. Aside from Dr. Facilier, the characters were “meh” in my opinion and I couldn’t stand Lawrence, Niven’s valet because we have heard this cliche before: a British butler-esque character who is so tortured by humiliation from his master that he turns into a villain. He also kinda reminded me too much of the Timothy Spall character from “Enchanted”. And I also just wanted Charlotte to punch Lawrence.

As for the music, as much as I like Randy Newman, this is not one of my favorite musical scores and songs he has done…with the exception of “Friends on the Other Side”. That’s was a pretty cool villain song.

And finally, is any other people still mad that “Princess and the Frog” got beaten by “Avatar” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”?

While I wouldn’t call this a perfect movie (then again I don’t think this studio has had a perfect movie since Dumbo…. yea I said it wanna fight).
It has the best Disney villain and heroin in recent memory. And definatly worth a watch or two.

In reply to pretto. Not necessarily, there're so many possible ways the story could go. I actually really like the end product, but that doesn't change the fact that frogs are so not appealing.

In reply to pretto. Not necessarily. Regardless of whether or not Tiana turned into a frog, she would still help out Naveen in order to get the money for her restaurant. There would still be stakes for her.

I really love the aura of The Princess and the Frog. Yes, the story was definitely not the best, but I loved the way the movie felt. And I agree, the animation was absolutely gorgeous! I really like how Tiana was animated, I think Mark Henn was the supervising animator for her. He also did Mulan, I believe. Mark Henn is one of my favorite animators, so Tiana holds a special little place in my heart.
