In reply to Manuel Orozco. I heard it on the second audio commentary on the 60th anniversary DVD release of "Fantasia" where it plays towards the end of the Deems Taylor introduction of "The Rite of Spring", taken from one of Walt's Disneyland TV shows.

In reply to Dan Siciliano. Oh Yeah I remember seeing Boat Buddies when I saw the movie on April Fools Day 2007. I didn't even see it coming. Also, Zootopia didn't have a short.

Well…to be honest…”Meet the Robinsons” was a big letdown for me. It didn’t have appealing characters that I’ve truly found in “Chicken Little” to my own taste. And to coin a phrase, I would prefer “Chicken Little” over “Robinsons”.

But the one thing that turned me off “Robinsons” was the idea of showing a Disney short before the movie would start. It played the 1936-37 cartoon “Boat Buddies” and this led to a conspiracy I have known and guessed: Since Disney bought Pixar and allowed John Lasseter to be the head honcho, I think he was trying to have Disney be in the exact release mode as Pixar, always have a short before the feature. I really liked that the Disney shorts have improved after they released “Robinsons” but…sigh…its time to get on with life.

Robinsons has a better message and it was decently emotional, but that’s really it. There were way too many characters, the animation already looks outdated, the tone is all over the place, and the villain was just too goofy and over-the-top. Not a bad movie, just bland and forgettable. At least with Chicken Little, Disney tried new ideas. Did they really work, no, but they tried. Again, I don’t think Robinsons was awful, just kind of bland and basic.

I see this film as the final “blunder” or “disappointment” that the studio had to get over before the end of the post-renaissance era. I like the message and the heart that’s in the film, and seeing how many people connect to the story is inspiring in itself. While it is personally okay in my book, it is far from one of the worst films in the canon.
