I gotta watch "Treasure Planet" more times as long as I live. Because I do agree, it's really an underrated film. I think one other reason why "Tresaure Planet" didn't do so good was not because it was a 2D film during the rise of 3D films. It was because it was so ahead of its time, much like "Fantasia" in the 1940's. Audiences, I guess, weren't ready for it. Combining sci-fi with different themes worked well in this one and "Lilo & Stitch". As for the rest, I liked the characters and thier relationships (especially John Silver and BEN), the art direction and the James Newton Howard score.
If I did had one criticism with "Treasure Planet" is with the alien piratre crew behind John Silver. It kinda feels like the antithesis of the crew from "Atlantis": interesting characters with quirky personalities and fondness for the hero. But at least, Scroop was awesome! My least favorite alien pirate, most of all, was the female pirate who was a bit of a pushover. She kinda reminded me a alien, Cockney version of Yzma from "Emperor's New Groove". But to conclude anyway, I liked "Treasure Planet" and can't wait to see more of it.

Along with The Lion King and Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet is one of my all-time favourite Disney films, so much so that the first soundtrack I ever bought was Treasure Planet's OST, and I actually went and tracked down the art book! It's absolutely fascinating to see how they adapted the story of Treasure Island, and how they applied the 70/30 rule to everything. It's a real shame that it's somewhat overlooked compared to Disney' other films.

The Animation is the only thing i can enjoy in the film. The film as whole is a real struggle to get through for me. Something just does not click with the characters or the story. I dont have the same problem with the other Treasure Island film by Disney.

I really like Treasure Planet, mostly because the movie succeeds in spite of it's gimmick.

Because honestly, what was the point of putting Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate adventure in space? The story was already thrilling and family-friendly, and Disney's animation could have done some impressive visuals with the ocean-bound story. Giving Treasure Island a steam-punk-meets-sci-fi makeover not only panders to the hyperactive young audience ("It's pirates, but in space! Isn't that so cool, yo?!") but it alienates older audiences (B.E.N. is completely obnoxious, and seems to be coming from a completely different movie).

But the adventure is engaging, the characters are well developed, and the visuals are dazzling. The action scenes, are superb. Just like the dialogue, the set pieces have an arc, and they don't just provide thrills, but they inform the audience of where these characters are in their personal journey.

Despite me kind of roasting the Post-Renaissance films, this is one of the only films that I find to be underrated in the era. There is not a lot that is really wrong with the film; the story is fine, the characters are fine, and while the world can be confusing to many people (me included), some do not seem to mind. While I do not LOVE this film, I will admit that it does hold up.

I am so happy that I re-watched this movie in my late teens. I first watched it at the age of 6 but back then I didn't really get how deep it was and was turned off cause of the alien setting. However last year when I re-watched this movie at the same time as I was struggling with anxiety issues I finally saw the movie with a pure enjoyment and also related a little to Jim's character. Especially his relation with Silver. I also had someone like Silver during a tough time in my life so I could see a lot of parallels. But overall I really like this movie more now as a young adult than I did as a child.

I love this film!!! I watched for the first time fairly recently (~3 years ago) relative to most Disney movies. And it made me feel like a kid again! I was at a phase where I thought my love for Classic Disney movies stems from nostalgia only, that it was only in my mind, but Treasure Planet reminded me why I loved Disney so much in the first place. It proved to me that I can be of any age and still fall in love with the Disney "formula." Pure happiness and magic.
