I didn’t actually start liking the movie until I was 15.

And I agree Disney seems to love orphans whether we like it or not. And we have no control over it.

That’s what I mean by different approach. Plus if her parents were alive, Hans would have not had the advantage of putting his plan to take over Arendele into action. And you are right about Tadashi of course and if their parents were still in the picture, where would Baymax be?

I get Frozen (for Elsa to become queen, she needed to be an orphan), but not Big Hero 6. Having Hiro loose his brother was important to the story, but not his parents. Why couldn’t he live with his parents instead of his aunt? For some reason, Disney just really likes orphans hehehe 🙂

And about Good Dinosaur, it was deeply moving and beautifully animated despite how occasionally cheesy it was. Emotional is not usually my cup of tea.

Well Frozen and Big Hero 6 were the last two times in a Disney movie where the scenario was put to 100% effective use with both siblings. However, the approach was taken differently. So I guess why leave the kid orphaned is a mystery even I can’t solve. Something you may want to know about me is I actually saw Lion King before Bambi. You know what they say, generation gap.

I’m glad you went prepared into that movie, it was really sad and emotional… That’s another recurrent theme in Disney movies, come to think about it. Sometimes the tragedy that leaves the character orphaned plays a crucial role in the story, but more often than not it’s just there because. And sometimes they just gloss over it, so why make the poor kid orphan in the 1st place?

By the way, you know what I meant by some sort of plot. As in an evil plot you know to destroy Arlo and his family.

That’s a nice way to put it. Formulas couldn’t ruin my enjoyment of both movies so easily even though they overall didn’t turn out super awesome. Another example would be for Good Dinosaur. For a while, I kept thinking to myself I did not rent that movie 6 months ago just to watch Mouse House infamy repeat itself. In this case with Arlo’s dad. Having memories of being scared of the Lion King as a kid, that Deja vu didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the movie easily as pie. The bright side to that scenario was that the now infamous tragedy wasn’t part of some sort of plot. Luckily I was prepared for it but I got very nervous before I started the movie.

I agree that no repetition of formulas could ever take out any merit of a good story or good character development. It’s just that seeing a studio getting too attached to formulas makes you wonder if they trully know what it is that makes them great.
