Princess and the Frog is part of the Revival Era. If it wouldn't be for that movie, there would be no Tangled, Frozen or any other fairytale movie at Disney anymore. Even Disney always include it in their articles as start of Revival Era. I actually think it's a little disrespectful to say Tangled started that era. Also, Princess and the Frog was a box office success, when you take into consideration that Disney lied about it's budget how it was later revealed and it was a LOT lower.

For the record I enjoyed the film, (certainly more than some of the actual revival movies). Tiana is easily top three best female leads in a Disney movie. And the Villains is the best since Yzma, and they haven't topped him yet.
But strictly from a business perspective, I find the film very hard to defend on any grounds other than, here's a princess that adds diversity in a franchise.

I agree with Tangled beeing the first of the Revival era, because even if Meet The Robinson, Bolt and Princess and the frog were good, they weren't Box Office succeses like the other cgi Disney movies, that's why Fantasia 2000 it's not in the Disney Revival because even if good it didn't made much money. I also like to call the Disney Revival, "The CGI era"

This was a rather interesting era, with a good chunk of films being ambitious yet the final product wasn't as good as the idea. There were also some bright spots, yet also some of the absolute worst films the Mouse House has churned out.
Fantasia 2000 - A bit of a mixed bag with some really solid segments, but also some weaker ones and a tad overeliance on celebrity introductions.
Dinosaur - Out of all the films in this era, it's easily the most forgettable. Which in turn makes it one of the worst since the truly forgettable films don't stand out in any way, and can't really be recommended to anyone.
The Emporer's New Groove - While this one had quite a dramatic history in it's Kingdom of the Sun days, what ended up happening produced one of the better films of this era. Not to mention one of Disney's best comedies too.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire - I personally enjoyed this one, and feel this art style is perfect for doing any kind of graphic novel look.
Lilo & Stitch - For me this is the best film of the era, period. An' it produced one of the best and most realistic portrayals of sisters in any animated film I've seen. (Frozen has -nothing- on Lilo and Nani.)
Treasure Planet - Ambitious, yet it didn't quite work. I love me some space pirates, but since it was doing Treasure Island in space we all knew how it was gonna' progress.
Brother Bear - I enjoy this one as well, there's some really, really good moments in it. Though it does make some mistakes which really do bring it down several notches. (eg. Phil Collins singing to us on how sad we're supposted to be at a particular point, when it could've just had instrumental music to sell the scene.)
Home on the Range - Hoo boy, this one certainly made some poor choices. Not much needs to be said since it's generally known as one of the worst...however...
Chicken Little - While Home of the Range is generally known as one of the worst, Chicken Little is FAR worse. To be honest, it's easily the worst film in this era...and from Disney period. After all, when Disney openly avoids acknowleging this film's existance, (Like the creators of Zootopia saying the last all talking animal film from Disney was the Lion King.) you know this film is a straight up abomination.
Meet the Robinsons - This film is alright, clearly it got a hail mary save from Lassater, but that was for the better.
(Have not seen Bolt)
The Princess and the Frog - Now if you want a polarizing film, look no further. I know people who adore this film, I know people who dispise this film. Myself I definitely enjoy it, though it does feel like they were expecting this to be a unanimous smash hit like the Ressisance era but it didn't happen.

I agree that Princess and the Frog should be in this era. For me what separates these eras, aside from the box office and critical numbers, is also the style and Disney's marketing trends. The films in the first half of the Renaissance more or less had the same visual style and the same can be said for the revival. Also Tangled was the first film where Disney drastically changed its marketing perspective and because of its pay off that same formula is fallowed today. It's a heavy emphasis on comedy and contemporary references. Plus Tangled's was huge. It still has lots of merchandise and a strong presence in the park which all of its predecessors have as well (especially Frozen). Princess and the Frog and Bolt were definitely key in the resurgence of Disney and played a role in where it is today, but I'd compare them more to films lik Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company as opposed to Little Mermaid and Aladdin.

Oh, this is for sure my least favourite era, and I do consistently rip it apart in posts. I just do not know what they were thinking when a lot of these films were in production, and blaming it on the fact that it was in traditional animation. As a child growing up during this era, I was either not aware that these movies were out, or just did not care to watch, and went to Pixar and DreamWorks. After watching these films a few years ago, I can honestly say that a lot of them are as bad as their reputation.

I am glad The Princess and the Frog is included in this era, and it is a perfect way to end the era. Just looking at the reception of the film now, it doe snot fit in the current era, and did not make much of an impact in the rand scheme of things.

It is kind of like how some people consider "The Rescuers" to be a different era from "The Fox and the Hound", and the 80s is seen as a transitional period.

Yeah. Even the company does not pay it much mind these days, and there are a few more films in the era that were more successful than it. Princess and the Frog is much more like Oliver & Company or The Great Mouse Detective for sure.
