I disagree, they respect the original animated version and brought it in a new way. I think the film looks perfect. Want to talk about disrespecting the classic? John Musker and Ron Clements? the famous directors of The Little Mermaid, The Princess And The Frog, Aladdin and more? they said in a few interviews that the ocean in The Little Mermaid was “Okay for its time but so lame! the ocean in Moana is way better then that lame ancient hand drawn animation” which I think is far more disrespectful.

In reply to JMB. That's fair. I am sure also Bill Condon gave more context in the full interview. Just strange that Disney would pick that quote to defend their remake but you make good points.

Yeah, but what I mean is, when he said that technology caught up, I believe he meant it in terms of practical and CGI effects for live-action cinema, and not as a jab at 2D animation for being dated and incapable of fully realizing these ideas. The guy outright said the original film was basically perfect as it was. I think he just worded things badly and gave the wrong implications.

In reply to Rachel Wagner. Just curious. Trust me it's not a great movie but it is a fun 75 minutes of your time especially if you have very or little knowledge of the movie musicals from back during the 30's 40's and 50's. It's actually set in 1939
