Beauty and the Beast was an absolute masterpiece. I just wonder why Disney is doing a live-action version of this? I can't understand with the Jungle Book as the original had problems that the new one fixed. But the time span from the original to new Jungle Book was about 50 years. The new Beauty and the Beast will come out just 26 years after the original and the original was fantastic. So I just don't see why they are redoing this?

Granted I know Hollywood borrows from older stuff all the time. So it doesn't surprise me at all. But.........yea. I highly recommend it. The movie is more of a fairy tale than a Broadway show. And the story is about Belle, while Disney's is about the Beast.

I never knew about this earlier film but I've just come to accept that Disney takes inspiration from many different sources and uses it as a template to put their own modern spin on those earlier sources. It would be nice though if they gave credit where credit was due more often. Your post about this definitely has me interested in checking out this earlier film in any case.

The Little Mermaid is still my favorite of the Disney classics but Beauty and the Beast is definitely in a close second. I love Belle so much because I agree she's one of the most relatable female heroines. Even though I'm a guy, I still feel like I connect with Belle and her love of fantasy and imagination as someone who's always been a big fantasy fan myself and I love reading as much Belle does too! The animation and music are still flawless years later and I also agree at how unique the characters are. It's hard to pick a favorite because I love them all but I think I especially love Mrs. Potts and Chip the most! If I had any issue with the movie, I feel like the climax of the movie kind of clashes with comic relief and the more serious tones. Like you have this real serious situation with the Beast and Belle going on but at the same time, the magical creatures are all using comic relief to fight off the villagers. I guess Disney didn't want to make the movie too scary for kids but as an adult, it does come across a bit clashing to me personally. And that's mainly why I still love The Little Mermaid more. It's really sad to think about that Howard Ashman was literally dying of AIDS when this movie came out. If you haven't read anything him yet, I highly recommend tracking down a good detailed article about the life of Howard Ashman because I think it will give you an even greater appreciation for the beauty (no pun intended) of this movie's soundtrack.

I saw them before, some people say the one with Lumiere and Cogsworth isn't technically finished but everything else is really exciting :)

Speaking of Blu-ray some pics from the remake the producer put up.
It's from clips that will be included on the 25th anniversary Blu-ray/DVD next month.

Well it's just funny that out of 4 princess films before Beauty and the Beast I have reviewed 3 of them. Ha! I didn't even realize that but I reviewed Snow White, Cinderella and Little Mermaid. I didn't mean to be a princess hog! Ha

Oh nice. It doesn't actually matter, I was just being that annoying guy saying, "called it!"

Ah, three films then? Thanks for the correction. Okay, that's a very small sliver of films. On the other hand, to be sure, animation is such a small sliver of the films that are made.
